My blog in this occasion would be a slight rant about how referee’s should hold a press conference after each game to explain their decisions. This I feel would stop the media criticising them on a regular basis. It would give the referee the chance to put their view of what happened across – therefore humanising their decision and making it easier to understand, and therefore tougher to criticise. But since it is only optional whether a referee speaks to the media, they will constantly be questioned, and picked on for their decisions. In this scenario, Mr Atwell did not explain his decision to either both managers or the press then it becomes very difficult to reason with him or report favourably on him. In my opinion saying nothing is worse than saying something (I obviously would say that as a ‘trainee journalist’). One reason he may not have explained his decisions is that he is the youngest referee in the football league, and may not have had the confidence to explain his ‘mistake’, however he will have been media trained. Having said this I was pleased to see Swedish Ref Martin Hansson admit to getting the late penalty decision against Liverpool in the Champions League wrong (The Sun, 6/11/08), explaining from his position it had looked like Steven Gerrard had been fouled. Whilst this would’ve angered the Atletico Madrid fans, it at least allows the Atletico fans to say they were unlucky not to win, and brings much needed closure to the debate. In my honest opinion I would happily let referee Hansson ref a match which involved a team that were close to me on the basis that he is obviously an honest man who at least tries his hardest to get decisions right. Mr Atwell on the other hand would worry me as he has not been able to explain his actions and therefore makes me wonder whether he has an alterior motive prior to events on the football pitch occuring.  

My next blogs will be on more sporting events, with my honest and frank opinions on any ‘controversial’ media reporting, or sporting situations/reactions. They will also be far more in depth without a great introduction at the beginning.   

As my blog isn’t going to be read by hundreds of people (although I hope it will be one day) it gives me leeway to ‘rant’ and sail a little closer to crossing that dangerous objective journalistic line. However I have always tried to be objective and as neutral as possible in my views with everything I encounter. Having said that my previous experiences will obviously affect my current opinions. As much as I try to escape them, I will apologise in advance if any of my opinions skew what I am blogging on. It is on this notion that I believe truly objective opinionated blogs, and for that matter news reporting, is impossible to obtain for any journalist. But the fact you can explain your opinions in more depth makes a blog empirical to any journalist.

Plus I believe I will enjoy writing them from an egotistical point of view, although I’ll try and tone it down a little from my previous postJ.

The reason i would blogg is because everyone should be interested in my life.

This is because i am a superior being, and people should be interested in what im doing or what im interested in.

If i am drinking a cup of tea (which out of interest i dont ever do – water all the way – got a live a little) i am sure you all would like to know about it and then want to copy me.

If my football team (Derby County) win (which is rare) you should all want to know about it as you should all support them too, as you should all be followers of me.

I am the most important person in the world which is why i have a blogg.

There is no need for me to discover a story (as a ‘trainee journalist’) and put it on this blogg, because i am the news and i am all the world needs to know about.

What i say is the objective truth, is the bible of blogging, is the most fascinating and most whirlwind experience you will ever have, i will change your life because……….I am the most important person in the world……here’s a snippet from my previous bloggs i used to make (some call it the old testiment of blogg)

i went to my local newsagents, everyone else in the shop stopped doing what they were doing because i was in the room. i spoke some inspirational and magical words to the shop keeper (no doubt these words changed his life), i said something like “alright mate, can i have a packet of wine gums” i cant remember my exact words as i was busy thinkin about how this blogg i was writing about this incident would change everyones life, because…….i am the most important person in the world (which is why i have a blogg).

When i am away from this computer do not fear, as you know i will be changing peoples lives, and then writing it up as soon as i find the time, as being the most important person in the world is quite busy – altho bizarrely right now i actually have alot of free time, but it means i can spend more time teaching myself new things because i am the only person i can learn from, which again is another reason for writing a blogg.Also blogg is spelt with two ‘g’s because i say it is, which means its right, and if you commented on that to someone sat next to you when you were reading this blogg then you are no longer allowed to be a follower, which basically means you are a dead duck, and who watches a dead duck, not even its mum, it just flies off depressed.
